Cars that feel like cars
Other players' cars don't slide around like pictures: steering, lights, indicators, horn, wheelspin and tyre smoke come across, and so does the damage, dent for dent, as the owner's game worked it out.
ABeamOnline is a free launcher and server that put you and your friends on the same road in BeamNG.drive. Pick a server, click Join, and the launcher starts the game and drops you on the right map. No config files, no codes to type.
The launcher is a small Windows app. It shows you the servers, with who's on them, where they are and how fast your connection to them is. It sets the game up for you and gets you in with one click.
The server is a small program anyone can run on a home PC or a cheap Linux VPS. It doesn't need the game or a graphics card: it passes what each player's game sends to the others, and checks all of it on the way.
Hosts who want strangers to find them switch one setting, and their server shows up in everyone's launcher, on the public list.

Set by the host, up to 64.
Drive one, leave others parked, tow a trailer.
Each car's position, smoothed on everyone's screen. Each host picks 30, 50 or 60.
A password only if the host set one.
Everything in between is the launcher's job. Here's what it does for you, in order.
From the public list or your favourites: name, map, flag, players and ping at a glance.
Only if the host set one. A small box asks for it; nothing else to type.
Finds your game, installs or updates the BeamOnline mod, and checks the server is the one it says it is.
BeamNG.drive opens straight away, without its own launcher window in between.
The game loads the server's map by itself and says hello. The others are already driving.
Other players' cars don't slide around like pictures: steering, lights, indicators, horn, wheelspin and tyre smoke come across, and so does the damage, dent for dent, as the owner's game worked it out.
AEvery server whose host listed it, with a flag for where it is. Star the ones you like: they stay in My Favourites.
BPress U in the game. Messages fade out when you're driving and stay readable when you're not.
CThe launcher installs and updates the BeamOnline mod in your game, and leaves your other mods alone.
DClose the game and the launcher leaves the server for you.
EServers never write players' IP addresses to their logs. Each server's identity is checked for you, so you're talking to the server you picked. Passwords are never logged and are stored hashed. Everything a server sends is checked before your game sees it.
FPasswords, kicks and bans, daily logs, and short commands: beamonline restart.
